Peter Aiken Egleson (1881 census record) was a leading Ottawa merchant in the mid 19th century, born in Ireland in 1814. Here are some rare historical documents he wrote.

  1. A Few Facts and Circumstances for the electors of Carleton and of the Ottawa Valley to read and reflect upon, PA Egleson, June 1867.
Egleson states in this 9-page booklet why he chose not to stand for Parliament, and compares Canadian and American elections.
This unique historical record was OCRed from what is perhaps the only copy that is still in existence. The booklet that I xeroxed several decades ago has probably since been destroyed, and I know of no other originals or copies.
    1. scanned image
    2. text
  2. Handwritten memorandum, sort of an autobiography, by Peter Aitken Egleson written about 1860, plus some other letters and newspaper clippings, some from 1860s, some 1960s.
I scanned this on 8/28/2008 from a xerox that was made about 30 or more years ago.
The scan was made at 600dpi and is available if this reduced copy is too hard to read. However, the visible difference is small, while the size difference is large (2GB).
    1. scanned image of the autobiography, together with some other newspaper clippings (284 pages, 300MB),
    2. transcription of the autobiography.
