Portability
This is allowed by standards like OpenGL, and has (at least) 3 components:
- Hardware
- You can swap the hardware w/o changing the program.
- Language
- You can change the programming language and operating system.
- Programmer
- Programmers can move between projects.
Standards
- Positive
- They allow portability. They ignore differences in HW.
- Negative
- They make lag the state-of-the-art both in HW capabilities and in what users want. They ignore differences in HW.
