Data Sets I've Used - WR Franklin

Here are various data files that I've used, or at least found useful.

This page is still under construction. More files are being added.

USGS Level-1 Digital Elevation Models (DEMs)

Here is alphabetically the first file starting with each letter of the alphabet (at the time that I extracted them). The advantage of this selection is that it is clearly unbiassed. It includes a mix of everything from mountains to coastal plains.

Each file is 1201x1201 2-byte binary integers, gzipped. Suns and Pentiums store the 2 bytes of each 2-byte integer in different orders. The order of these files is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

The files may not all have north at the top. I haven't bothered to check since this doesn't affect the validity of any processing that I've done.
